American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Physicians With Heart Resident Scholarship

The American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation is offering one scholarship that will allow a Family Medicine Resident to accompany the delegation in the Fall of 2010 (Oct. 23 - Nov. 2), on the Physicians With Heart (PWH) trip to Tajikistan, a former republic of the Soviet Union. The scholarship will cover all expenses from the departure city to Tajikistan and in-country expenses including housing, transportation and food.

Physicians With Heart Delegates:

Tour recipient hospitals
Share medical knowledge in a medical symposia with in-country physicians
Provide pharmaceutical update training on medicines delivered in-country
Meet government officials/business leaders associated with the project
Participate in a special Children's Project at local orphanages
Enjoy the culture and experience of being in a developing country

Scholarship Criteria & Requirements
Candidates should have an interest in International Family Medicine. The scholarship recipient will also be asked to give a presentation during the AAFP's 2011 National Conference of Family Medicine Residents and Medical Students, regarding his or her experiences and involvement in the project.

Family Medicine Residents who wish to be considered for the scholarship must prepare and submit the following paperwork by August 15, 2010.

Copy of CV Letter or Resume
Letter of Intent
Letter from Residency Program Director - This letter should provide information about the Resident, as well as permission for time off to attend the trip and present at the National Conference the following year.

The scholarship will cover airfare, lodging and meals while in-country. In addition, passports must be valid for six months past the travel date.
