Drug Therapy Research Award

The Drug Therapy Research Award recognizes an outstanding contribution to the biomedical literature of research involving drug efficacy and safety in humans.

The award will be given annually to the author(s) of an important research article primarily concerning therapeutic efficacy and drug safety in humans published during the calendar year preceding the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting at which the award is presented. Examples of this research include prospective studies that evaluate clinical effects, pharmacodynamics or pharmacokinetics of drug therapy. This award is not intended to recognize research in pharmacy practice or in topics other than drug effects in humans.

Description of Award
This award consists of a $4,000 honorarium, a $1,000 expense allowance to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting for the award presentation, and a plaque.

Eligibility
Author
At the time of the completion of the research, the author (or, in the case of multiple authorship, at least one of the authors who was a significant contributor to the research) shall have been a pharmacist.

Article
For this award, research refers to formalized testing using the scientific approach and observing the clinical effects of drugs in humans. Contributions to the pharmaceutical literature eligible for the award may include published materials appearing in the primary literature (electronic or print) that are widely available. The work should reveal (or it should be obvious) that the problem studied was derived from or is applicable to drug therapy.

Selection Process
A selection panel will review submitted publications and select the highest quality article that is most pertinent to drug therapy in hospitals and health systems. Click on the link below for the names of selection panel members:

Selection Criteria
The following criteria and point values will be used:

• Originality - 20 points
• Significance - 15 points
• Research Methodology - 25 points
• Data Analysis - 25 points
• Validity of Conclusions - 15 points
• Total 100 points
