Award for Sustained Contributions to the Literature of Pharmacy Practice

The Award for Sustained Contributions to the Literature of Pharmacy Practice is given to an individual for publishing relevant articles of consistently high quality and importance in the biomedical literature related to hospitals and health systems over a minimum of 10 years.

Emphasis is placed on the significance and impact of the nominee's contributions to the profession, rather than quantity. Ten of the candidate's best contributions to the literature related to hospitals and health systems will be evaluated in this award category.

Description of Award
This award consists of a $4,000 honorarium, a $1,000 expense allowance to attend the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting for the award presentation, and a plaque.

Eligibility
Article
Contributions to the biomedical literature eligible for the award may include published materials appearing in periodicals, books, textbooks, textbook chapters, or other publications (electronic or print) that are widely available. The nominee must have been a significant contributor or primary author of all of these publications.

Author
For this award, the author shall be a pharmacist. Past recipients of this award are not eligible for renomination.

Selection Process
The Selection Panel will review the 10 submitted publications of each nominated author and choose the individual whom they judge has made the most noteworthy contributions of highest quality to the literature of pharmacy practice in hospitals and health systems over a period of at least 10 years.

Selection Criteria
The following criteria and point values will be used:

• Significance to health-system practice - 20 points
• Impact on profession - 35 points
• Noteworthiness of contributions - 20 points
• Contributions made over a sustained period - 25 points
• Total 100 points

The ASHP Foundation Literature Awards program annually recognizes important contributions to the literature of pharmacy practice in hospitals and health systems. Administered by the ASHP Foundation since 1971, the program is based on the concept that recognition through awards stimulates research and innovation and fosters improvement in the quality of the professional literature.
