Call for Applications
Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children is accepting applications for the Samuel Harris Fellowship. Pediatric dental residents and individuals in their first five years post-residency are eligible to apply. The Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children and Paul S. Casamassimo created this opportunity for individuals to participate in governance and advocacy activities, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and HSHC functions, and attend internal organizational and inter-professional meetings. Pediatric dental residents and individuals in their first five years post-residency are eligible to apply for the Samuel Harris Fellowship. Part of this two-month fellowship will be completed at the AAPD headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, and a deliverable project is required at the end of the Fellowship. A cash stipend and payment for travel to Chicago and other meeting locations is provided. HSHC and the selected applicant/program director will agree upon exact fellowship dates. Applications are due May 31, 2009.

Goals of this fellowship are identified below:

Familiarize AAPD members with the specialty, its governance and issues facing it in the 21st century.
Expose new members to the administrative and membership functions of a dental specialty.
Inform members of organizational strategies, advocacy and interprofessional relationships not commonly available to pediatric dentists in practice or academics.
Better prepare members to assume leadership roles in dental specialty governance, particularly within the AAPD governance structure.
Complete a relevant project in pediatric dentistry.
