A $4,000 stipend for participation in the ADEA Leadership Institute or to pursue a three-month Fellowship at the ADEA office in Washington, DC.
The American Dental Education Association (ADEA)/Colgate-Palmolive Company Allied Dental Educators
Fellowship promote leadership development of faculty members in allied dental health. This fellowship
provides the opportunity for an allied dental educator to focus on a broad range of issues affecting allied dental
education such as, but not limited to, policy, research, budget and finance, faculty advancement, legislation,
and gender and workforce issues.
Overview
This fellowship allows the recipient to choose one of the following activities:
• The ADEA Leadership Institute—The recipient can choose to attend the ADEA Leadership Institute
through a $4,000 award that is applied directly to the applicant’s tuition and fees. To qualify to attend
the ADEA Leadership Institute, the recipient must complete the Leadership Institute’s application
materials and have the full support of his or her Dean or program director to cover the remaining costs
of the ADEA Leadership Institute. Full details about the ADEA Leadership Institute are available on the

• ADEA Center for Educational Policy and Research—The recipient can choose to spend the fellowship
at the ADEA office. The fellow receives a stipend of $4,000 to cover travel and expenses for the
cumulative three-month experience in Washington, DC. The fellow’s institution continues to provide
salary support for the duration of the experience. While in Washington, DC, the fellow will work with
staff in the ADEA Center for Educational Policy and Research on issues such as faculty recruitment,
development, and retention; leadership development and teaching strategies; competencies and their
assessment; and accreditation and licensure.
The fellow’s interests and talents will be considered when assigning projects and responsibilities. ADEA
will be flexible in the arrangement of time away from the fellow’s institution.

All applications must be received on or before December 8, 2008. Electronic submissions are not accepted.

Eligibility
An applicant must:
• have at least five years of experience as an allied dental faculty member
• demonstrate strong leadership qualities and interest in dental hygiene administration or higher
education administration
• hold a full-time allied dental faculty
