ASCCP 2014 Biennial Scientific Meeting APRIL 9–12, 2014 Phoenix-Scottsdale, Arizona

The American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology has established a research award in the area of lower genital tract disorders. The purpose of this award is to provide seed funding to junior investigators to advance knowledge in the field of cervical, vaginal and vulvar disorders and to present their research at the ASCCP Biennial Scientific Meeting.

Eligibility:

The applicant must be in a health-related graduate training program at the time the application is submitted (i.e., medical residency, fellows, physician’s assistant program or graduate level nursing program).

The applicant must have written approval from the program director of the training program or institutional administrator to receive a non-educational grant.

Application Guidelines:

The application deadline is May 24, 2013 and must include the following (4) required components:

-- Write the scientific research proposal in eight (8) pages or less and include the following: Hypothesis; Specific Aims; Background and Significance; Experimental Design; and, References

-- A one-page research budget, including Biennial registration and travel costs

-- Curriculum vitae

-- Letter of support from program director, departmental chair or laboratory director

Award:

Two (2) awards will be given biennially for $5,000 each. The awards will include research materials, registration, travel and accommodations to the 2014 ASCCP Biennial Scientific Meeting being held April 9–12, 2014 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Recipients of the awards will be announced no later than June 21, 2013.

Recipients must submit their research abstract electronically to the ASCCP no later than October 31, 2013 in order to receive financial support for the 2014 ASCCP Biennial Scientific meeting. Any paper developed as a result of this award must be first submitted for consideration for publication to The Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease.

Manuscripts must be submitted prior to February 28, 2014.

American Respiratory Care Foundation William F. Miller, MD Postgraduate Education Recognition Award

The American Respiratory Care Foundation awards up to $1,500 to assist qualified respiratory therapists in the pursuit of postgraduate education leading to an advanced degree. Established in 1988 by an initial contribution from William F. Miller, MD, this award became operational in 1992 when the $25,000 endowment level was attained. The award also consists of a certificate of recognition, airfare, one night lodging and registration for the AARC Congress 2013.

Requirements

Completed application form.

Must be a respiratory therapist who has at least a Baccalaureate degree with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent. If no Baccalaureate degree, then a letter of matriculation from a graduate program and an undergraduate transcript will suffice.

Must provide proof of acceptance into an advanced degree program of a fully accredited school and proof applicant is a candidate for a degree.

Must present three letters of reference attesting to the candidate's character, academic ability, and professional commitment.

Must submit an essay consisting of at least 1,200 words describing how the award will assist the applicant in reaching the objective of an advanced degree and the candidate's ultimate goals of leadership in health care.

As long as the minimum criteria are met, repeat awards may be considered by the ARCF Board of Trustees.

Applications now being accepted through June 15.

National Board for Respiratory Care/Applied Measurement Professionals Gareth B. Gish, MS, RRT Memorial Postgraduate Education Recognition Award

The American Respiratory Care Foundation and the National Board for Respiratory Care, together with its wholly owned subsidiary, Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc., awards up to $1,500 in memory of Gareth B. Gish, MS, RRT to a respiratory therapist pursuing postgraduate education leading to an advanced degree. The award consists of a certificate of recognition, airfare, one night lodging and registration for the AARC Congress 2013. May also include a cash award up to $1,500.

The Gareth B. Gish award was established in 1999 in memory of Mr. Gish, who was a true pioneer of the profession. Mr. Gish made enormous contributions to our understanding of the science of respiratory care and mentored literally thousands of therapists throughout his career.

American Respiratory Care Foundation Jimmy A. Young Memorial Education Recognition Award

The American Respiratory Care Foundation may award up to $1,000 in memory of Jimmy A. Young, past president of the AARC, who personally contributed greatly to respiratory care education. The foundation prefers that nominations be made by a representative of the school or an accredited respiratory training program, however, any student may initiate a request for sponsorship in order that a deserving candidate is not denied the opportunity to compete simply because the school does not initiate the application. Preference will be given to nominees of minority origin. This award consists a certificate of recognition, airfare, one night lodging, and registration for the AARC Congress 2013.

ONS Connections: Advancing Care through Science Conference Scholarship

PURPOSE: To increase the knowledge of nurses interested in oncology

SCHOLARSHIP: Each scholarship recipient will receive an educational scholarship up to $1,200 to apply toward their ONS Connections Conference expenses including travel to and from the conference and per diem conference expenses*. The conference registration fee will be automatically deducted from the grant prior to payment. Individuals living or working within a 50 mile radius of the conference location are eligible to receive the conference registration fee only. The conference registration fee will be paid directly to ONS.

*Expenses not covered include gifts, entertainment and dry cleaning/laundry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.The applicant must be a registered nurse involved in cancer nursing.

2.The applicant must be able to attend the Conference, specific for the scholarship, in its entirety.

3.Applicants must be willing to participate in conference follow-up questionnaire.

NOTES:

•Paid presenters at this conference are not eligible to receive this scholarship.

•Individuals that received a 2012 Congress Scholarship from the ONS Foundation are not eligible to receive this scholarship in 2012.

Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Congress Scholarships

All awards, grants and scholarships are tentative and subject to change based on funding availability.

Supported by ONS Foundation Nancy Berkowitz Scholarship Fund, Mary Scherbring Scholarship fund, Issie Rembert “Chappi” Chapman Scholarship

Purpose: To support a registered nurse interested in improving cancer care by developing their personal knowledge as a result of attending the ONS Congress and sharing this new knowledge with others.

Scholarship : Recipients will receive an educational grant for up to $1,200 to apply toward ONS Congress registration, travel to and from Congress and per diem Congress expenses.  The Congress registration fee will be automatically deducted from the grant prior to payment. 

Individuals living or working within a 50 mile radius of the conference location are eligible to receive the conference registration fee only. The Congress registration fee will be paid directly to ONS.

One scholarship is available from the Oncology Hematology Care, Inc. to support a Cincinnati Tri-State Chapter member attending Congress.

One scholarship is available to nurses residing and/or employed in Alabama. This scholarship is in memory of Issie Rembert “Chappi” Chapman.

American Association of Anatomists Short-Term Visiting Scholarships

Application deadlines: February 1, 2013, June 1, 2013 and October 1, 2013

AAA's Short-term Visiting Scholarship Program is intended to provide travel expenses to undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows or faculty to facilitate visiting a laboratory or participating in a course outside their home institution. The Scholarship consists of up to $1,000, plus registration fee (at early registration rate) and partial travel support to the next appropriate AAA Annual Meeting/ EB. The program will cover up to twelve (12) scholarships per year.

ELIGIBILITY

•Visiting Scholarships may be used in any country.

•Scholars may be undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows or faculty.

•Each Scholarship is intended for a short-term (typically, 1-8 week) visit to a laboratory or participation in a course outside the applicant’s home institution.

•Funding cannot be used to attend a meeting or conference.

•Scholars must have been AAA members for one year prior to application deadline and are expected to remain a member for at least one year after the scholarship is awarded.

•No individual will be funded twice in a calendar year.

•The award must be used within one year of the approval date.

•No individual will be funded for work on a project for which he/she was previously supported by a Short-term Visiting Scholarship.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

•Each Scholarship will have a value up to $1,000.

•Recipient must provide proof of course registration & completion or letter from host laboratory verifying completion of visit.

•Each Scholar will be reimbursed up to $350 to defray the cost of attending the annual AAA Annual Meeting/EB, in addition to free registration (at early registration rate).

•Scholars must write a short report of their visit or course within two months of completion.

•Scholars may be invited to participate in AAA outreach activities.

APPLICATION & PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

Applications should be submitted electronically, via the linked application form. Each application must include:

•CV (NIH four-page biosketch format preferred)
•For a course, the course description must be included.
•For a laboratory visit, an invitation letter from the host laboratory’s principal investigator must be included.

•One-page summary of:

•intended destination
•research goals that the visit or course will help achieve
•budget outline, indicating the source of additional funds, if necessary

PROPOSAL REVIEW

AAA’s Short-term Visiting Scholarship Committee is comprised of five (5) members appointed by the current or incoming President to represent various areas of education or research. Committee members will serve a two-year term with one member serving a one-year term as chair in the final year. (The initial committee will vary slightly until the appropriate staggering of terms is achieved.) The committee will review all applications and select up to four (4) Scholars in each of three awards cycles per year. It is not required that four awards be made in each cycle. Under special circumstances, the committee may make more than four awards in the first cycle of the year and fewer in the next, so long as they do not exceed a total of twelve (12) awards per year.

The Short-term Visiting Scholarship Committee will review all applications online, will score them based on a process established by the inaugural chair, and will confer by conference call to determine the scholarship recipients. They will provide their recommendations to AAA by March 15 (for applications due February 1), July 15 (for applications due June 1) and November 15 (for application due October 15).

•Applications will be reviewed three times per year, by a committee of five AAA members.

•Criteria for decision will include:

•track record of the applicant;

•importance of the visit or course for the applicant’s research success.

•The AAA Executive Committee will receive a list of recommended recipients; if no questions or objections are raised within one week, recipients will be notified.

•Critiques will not be provided to applicants.

TIMELINE

•Submission deadlines: February 1, June 1 and  October 1

•Committee report due: March 15, July 15 and November 15

•Scholarship presentation: Scholarship funds of up to $1,000 will be distributed upon verification of course or visit completion, as described above.
