ASTRO Basic Science Travel GrantsTo encourage participation in the ASTRO Annual Meeting by basic scientists, the Radiation Oncology Institute has a mechanism to subsidize meeting attendance among physicians, physicists and biologists who meet certain criteria. Up to seven grants of $1,000 each will be awarded each year. Five will be reserved for junior investigators; two will be designated as senior investigator awards. Application deadline is April 2, 2009.
Junior Faculty Career Research Training AwardPurpose: To stimulate interest in radiation research early in academic career development by giving junior physician faculty the opportunity to focus on research in radiation oncology, biology, physics or outcomes/health services research.Eligibility: The applicant must be a board-eligible physician or physicist in radiation oncology, or a radiobiologist, within the first three years of his or her junior faculty appointment. The successful candidate is expected, toward the end of the award period, to apply for grant support through NIH or other national funding mechanisms, such as Ko8, K23 or equivalent awards. The applicant’s institution must be recognized as providing a rich environment for trainee career development and have qualified faculty in clinical, translational or basic research to serve as mentors. A responsible figure from the institution/department and the mentor must demonstrate, in writing, a commitment to the development of the candidate as a productive, independent investigator.Conditions: This two-year award is in the amount of $125,000 per year. The second year of funding is contingent upon the recipient meeting all the award requirements at the completion of the first year. Radiation Therapy Technology Education Matching Fund Program The Radiation Therapy Technology Education Matching Fund Program provides radiation therapy technology programs with additional revenue to bolster enrollment and aid in the cost of education materials and distance-based learning. Participation in the program is simple. ASTRO members are encouraged to contribute to the Radiation Oncology Institute and designate any active and certified RTT program as the recipient of the contribution. The Radiation Oncology Institute will match contributed amounts up to $5,000 for any one program. The total amount for all programs to be matched in a given year is $50.000. The program will run from January 1, 2008, until December 31, 2008, (or until funds are exhausted). Contact ASTRO's Research Department at 703-502-1550 for more information.
