Applications for 2010 AADE Education and Research Foundation scholarships are now available.The deadline for applications is April 1, 2010. Recipients will be announced in May. Annual Meeting Scholarships: Provide recipients with complementary registration for the Annual Meeting. AADE - Sage Publications Travel Scholarships: Provide funds for travel/accommodations to Annual Meeting or other educational events. AADE – Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Travel Scholarships: Provide funds for travel/accommodations to Annual Meeting. AADE Foundation/Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) Plant Based Diet Scholarship: The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) has teamed up with the AADE Foundation to provide funds for a unique scholarship. PCRM offers public and professional education materials, most at no or very low cost, on the use of a low-fat, plant-based nutrition approach for diabetes self-management. Request for Applications: Discovery of Susceptibility and Resistance Genes in Diabetic Kidney Disease
Diabetic Nephropathy is a complex phenotype likely caused by the interaction between susceptibility alleles and environmental factors. There is evidence for a genetic susceptibility to diabetic kidney disease, but despite intensive research efforts through candidate gene searches, it has proved difficult to identify the causative genes.

AADE seeks to honor a diabetes educator who has less than three years of diabetes educationexperience and has demonstrated leadership and commitment in his/her practice.AWARDAward recipient will be recognized at the AADE Annual Meeting, receive a complementary registration to the Annual Meeting, will be given a one-year Active Membership, and will be recognized in AADE publication(s). Winners will also receive $300 worth of additional AADE products and services of their choice.CRITERIACandidates for the Rising Star Award may be nominated by a peer/colleague or by self-nomination. Candidates must be an AADE member who is in active practice of DSME/T with no conflict of interest.

PURPOSETo recognize an AADE chapter that has demonstrated leadership, growth, community service and support of the goals of the national organization.AWARDSThe award consists of a $1000 gift to the Chapter and a commemorative plaque. The award is generously sponsored by the BD Consumer Health Products. The award will be presented at the AADE Annual Meeting & Exhibition. ELIGIBILITY•All chapters that have been granted AADE chapter status (as defined in the AADE Bylaws), are in good standing, and have been active for at least six months prior to the application deadline are eligible. •Chapters that have won this award within the last two years are ineligible.ENTRY REQUIREMENTS•Application must be made by a chapter officer.•If applying for the Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award, a representative of the chapter will be required to make a brief presentation at the Annual Meeting Chapter Sharing Session.•Application should reflect activities from January 2009 through December 2009.•Application must include the Chapter’s Mission and Vision.•Applications must be submitted in MS Word – Times New Roman 12pt font as an email attachment by March 1, 2010. 2010 Diabetes Educator of the Year Award
PURPOSETo recognize a diabetes educator who has made a special contribution to diabetes education through dedication and innovation in the daily practice of patient care. The Diabetes Educator of the Year will act as an “Ambassador” for AADE and should be someone who is considered a role model by their peers and colleagues. In the their role as AADE Diabetes Educator of the Year, the winner will travel to Chapter Meetings and other AADE functions to give a presentation on a topic related to Diabetes Education of which they are passionate about.AWARD•The first and second runners up will each receive a $1,500 travel grant to attend the AADE Annual Meeting and a commemorative plaque. The award will be presented at the AADE Annual Meeting & Exhibition.•The DEOY will receive:•$5,000 cash award•$10,000 travel grant administered by AADE•The winner will be expected to travel and present a program regarding their expertise or special interest, to 6-10 Chapter Meetings throughout the USA during their term as Diabetes Educator of the Year. Applicant must be willing and able to participate in the travel aspect of this award. Additionally, winner will need to develop a program that will be presented at Chapter Meetings for CE credit. The winner will work with AADE Content Development Department to design a program that meets accreditation standards. If this application is being submitted by a peer or colleague, the nominator must be reasonably certain that the nominee will be willing and able to fulfill these requirements. ELIGIBILITY•Applicant must be, for at least five years, an active member of AADE, as defined by the AADE Bylaws, at the time of submission and at the time of receipt of the award, but not a member of the Awards Review Group or a past recipient of this award.•At the time of the application submission, the candidate must be a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) for at least three (3) years.•Candidate must make himself/herself available for a phone interview with the Committee on a specified date.•Applications must be submitted in 12pt font and as an email attachment by March 1, 2010. American Association of Endocrine Surgeons Paul LoGerfo Research Award
The Paul LoGerfo Research Award (PLRA) was developed to honor the life of Paul LoGerfo who made numerous major contributions to the field of endocrine surgery during his esteemed career. Dr LoGerfo passed away from malignant melanoma in 2003 during the peak of his career while serving as President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. The mission of the PLRA is to enrich the discipline of endocrine surgery and to advance the careers of junior investigators who are interested in a career in academic endocrine surgery. These goals will be pursued by supporting grant proposals that will broaden the horizon of endocrine surgery and advance the career-goals of junior endocrine surgeons. The PLRA welcomes proposals for support of a wide spectrum of research topics including surgical ethics, education, epidemiology, biostatistics, health care delivery, as well as clinical or basic science research pertaining to the field of endocrine surgery. The PLRA may be used for bridge or supplemental funding for research protocols with existing funding.
The maximum amount of the award is $10,000/year. Under special circumstances, an awardee may apply for a second year of funding; however the renewal will require a new application that will be considered with the other applications. Indirect cost policy: the monies from the PLRA may be used for direct costs only; no indirect costs may be charged against the award.
