This award is given to a midwife (CNM/CM) to fund projects which relate to the advancement of midwifery. The following types of activities may be eligible for this award: Advancement of midwifery clinical skills; advancement of midwifery through research and/or the dissemination of midwifery research; promotion of professional midwifery; presentations at medical or midwifery conferences; establishment of new midwifery practices/services; and/or study of different aspects of midwifery practice in the U.S. and abroad.
Sandy Woods Scholarship for Advanced Study – For Midwives of Color

This scholarship was established in honor of Sandy Woods, CNM, of Roosevelt Hospital on her retirement. It is awarded to midwives of color (CNM/CM) who are enrolled in doctoral education.

American College of Nurse-Midwives Foundation Fellowship for Graduate Education
This award provides a monetary grant that allows CNM/CMs actively enrolled in doctoral or post-doctoral studies to pursue graduate education and research. Initiated and funded for 10 years by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, more recently funding has come from The Teresa Marsico Endowed Scholarship (which can be used for Basic or Graduate education). If Marsico funding is used, more specific eligibility criteria may apply because priority is to be given to minority students.

The purpose and criteria of this scholarship are identical to the Basic Midwifery Student Scholarships. The scholarship is given by the ACNM Foundation Board (as funding allows) in memory of those for whom memorial donations have been given in the previous year.
