Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) Grants
Three grants - one each sponsored by American Nephrology Nurses' Association, Watson Pharma, Inc., and Nursing Economic$, The Journal for Health Care Leaders

Purpose
To support three qualified ANNA members to attend the annual Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) program held in Washington, DC, in March. Sponsored by the Nursing Organizations Alliance, the NIWI program provides nurses the opportunity to learn how to influence health care through the legislative and regulatory processes. Participants learn from health policy experts and government officials, network with other nurses, and visit members of Congress. Grants
ANNA will offer three grants for the NIWI program. Grant recipients will receive registration for NIWI, reimbursement for travel and hotel expenses, and a per diem. The value of each grant to be reimbursed to each participant is up to $2,500.

Eligibility Requirements
Candidates will apply for the internship.
The candidate must hold a current full membership in ANNA, having been a member for a minimum of 2 years, as of the awards/scholarship application deadline date.
The candidate must be actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.
Application Procedure
Submit a letter of application to the ANNA National Office addressing the following criteria:
Evidence of current activity in the legislative arena on the local, state, or national levels.
Strong communication skills.
Willingness to be partnered with a member of the ANNA Health Policy Committee for the calendar year following NIWI, and to serve on a future ANNA Health Policy Committee.
Ability to meet the time requirements for preparation for NIWI.
Describe how the internship will help in his/her current clinical role and his/her role in ANNA.
Include a professional photograph (head and shoulder view only) with the application.
The selected interns will be notified by the President-Elect.

Award
$1,000 and a plaque

Eligibility Criteria
Current full member of ANNA, having been a member of ANNA for a minimum of the last 2 years as of the awards/scholarship application deadline.
Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.
Key participant in an education or quality of life program.
Program may be a new endeavor or one already established.
Documentation outlining the following:
Current clinical applicability, including relationship to ANNA's Nephrology Nursing Standards of Practice and Guidelines for Care
Benefit to kidney patient population
Demonstration of originality, creativity, and organization
Description of the program
Details of implementation
Itemized budget
Evidence of support from the administrator, medical director, or nursing director from the institution or unit where project will be conducted.
Application
Exception to the application form instructions - The application must include:

Project proposal that is typewritten, limited to 4 double-spaced pages that include the criteria listed above.
Letter of support from the administrator, medical director, or nursing director from the institution or unit where project will be conducted.
Expectations of the Recipient
Written report of use of the funds and the achievements as a result of the grant is to be submitted to the ANNA Board of Directors by February 1 of the following year.

Clinical Practice Grants
Purpose
To provide funds for clinical practice projects that will directly benefit staff, patients, and/or families.

Grant
Three grants of up to $2,500 per award and a plaque

Eligibility Criteria
Current full member of ANNA, having been a member for a minimum of the last 2 years as of the awards/scholarship application deadline.
Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.
Eligible projects include, but are not limited to CQI projects designed to improve clinical practice or projects to design, implement, or evaluate staff and/or patient education programs, research utilization, or outcomes evaluation.
Project may be new or a project in progress.
Proposed projects may be used to meet requirements for an academic agree.
Application
Exception to the application form instructions - The application must include:

Clear description of the project including the specific aim or goal of the project.
Description of the project's clinical significance and potential to improve practice.
Relevance or relationship of the project to ANNA's Nephrology Nursing Standards of Practice and Guidelines for Care.
Critical examination of current practice related to the project.
Feasibility of the project.
Itemized budget explaining how funds will be used. Funds may be used to cover direct project expenses such as printed materials, small equipment, and supplies including computer software. The total amount of the budget request should not exceed $2,500.
Expectations of the Recipient
Results of the project will be shared with ANNA’s membership by:
Submission of a clinical abstract for presentation of the project at the National Symposium (poster or verbal presentation) OR
Submission of a manuscript for the Professional Issues section of the Nephrology Nursing Journal.

American Nephrology Nurses' Association (ANNA) Career Mobility Scholarships

The purpose of Career Mobility Scholarships is to support qualified ANNA members in the pursuit of either BSN or advanced degrees in nursing that will enhance their nephrology nursing practice.

Eligibility Criteria
Current full member of ANNA, having been a member for a minimum of the last 2 years as of the awards/scholarship application deadline date.
Accepted or enrolled in a baccalaureate or higher degree program in nursing.
Actively involved in nephrology nursing related health care services.
For NNCC scholarships only, the applicant must hold a current credential as a Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) or Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) administered by the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC).
Application
The completed blinded and unblinded application must include:
Documentation that eligibility criteria has been fulfilled.
Certified transcript(s) of the applicant's academic records.
A letter from the academic institution confirming the acceptance of the candidate into a course of full-time or part time study to begin no later than 3 months following the receipt of the award.
Three letters of recommendation from persons who can comment on the applicant's ability. The Scholarship Applicant Recommendation Form is available online. Each recommender must mail the completed form directly to the ANNA National Office.
Applicant must provide written documentation (an essay of 250 word or less) of career/education goals to include:
How degree will apply to nephrology nursing practice.
Time frame for completion of program.
Application of acquired funds to meet educational needs.
Assessment of the Application
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be scored by the Awards Committee based on the content of essay and letters of reference.
Distribution of Scholarship Funds
All scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the institution where the recipient is attending. If the amount of funds disbursed exceeds the cost of tuition and books, the balance will be returned to ANNA.
Expectations of the Recipient
Proof of successful academic progress (grade report or transcript) is required to be submitted to ANNA at the conclusion of the semester(s) for which funds were used.

Council on Renal Nutrition
The National Kidney Foundation provides strong support, encouragement and promotion of research.

Objective:
The purpose of the CRN Research Grants Program is to further knowledge of renal nutrition factors in clinical nephrology and urology. The grants may cover basic or applied research in renal nutrition, or nutrient supplementation pertinent to renal disease, or development and evaluation of education programs or teaching tools to enhance patient and family understanding the treatment of kidney failure and its nutritional implications, or epidemiology.

Eligibility:
Applicants must hold a regular membership in CRN, a minimum of two years work experience as a renal dietitian, residence in the U.S. or its territories, written approval from the department head or facility director at the institution/facility where the research is to be conducted, and evidence of support from someone with research experience.

Grant support enables CRN to promote research related to renal nutrition. Each year money is allocated to CRN for research grants (international partners are exempt). This fiscal year CRN will receive $30,000.

CRN has four major focus areas for research:

Basic or applied research in the area of renal nutrition.
Nutrient supplementation pertinent to renal disease.
Development and evaluation of education programs or teaching tools to enhance patient/family understanding of ESRD treatment and its nutritional implications.
Collaborative National Research Questions using multiple sites that can be applied to a randomized sample of a large ESRD population.
Terms of Award:
Project support and stipend not to exceed 20% of requested amount; consultant fees not to exceed 20% of total requested funds.

Duration:
One year

November 30: Grant Proposal due to NKF
January/February: Review by CRN Research Grants Committee
March 15: Awards announced
July 1: Approved project begins operation and continues until June 30th of the following year

Council of Nephrology Social Workers
Objective:
The purpose of the CNSW Research Grant Program is to further knowledge of psychosocial factors in kidney failure and to enhance clinical social work intervention with dialysis and transplant patients and families. The grants may cover research on psychosocial factors in kidney failure, or clinical practice research focusing on social work assessment and treatment strategies with patients and families or staff, or education programs to enhance patient and family understanding of kidney failure treatment and its psychosocial implications, or pilot or demonstration projects which have broad applicability to nephrology social work services and/or nephrology social workers.

Eligibility:
Applicants must hold a regular membership in CNSW, a minimum of two years work experience as a nephrology social worker, residence in the U.S. or its territories, written approval from the department head or facility director at the institution/facility where the research is to be conducted, and meet the definition of "Qualified Social Worker" as stated in Federal kidney failure Regulations. Preference given to applicants with ACSW accreditation, are licensed by their state, or are affiliated with a medical institution or university program.

In keeping with the overall goals of NKF and CNSW, research grants are available to national members of CNSW. The purpose is to further the knowledge of psychosocial factors in ESRD and to enhance clinical social work practice and intervention with dialysis and transplant patients/families. Grant proposals are welcome in the following areas:

Research on psychosocial factors in ESRD
Clinical practice research projects focusing on social work assessment and treatment strategies with patient/families or staff
Educational programs to enhance patient/family understanding of ESRD treatment and its psychosocial implications
Pilot or demonstration projects which may have broad applicability to nephrology social workers or their services and practice
Terms of Award:
Project support and stipend not to exceed 20% of requested amount; consultant fees not to exceed 25% of total requested funds.

One year
